Estonia is one of the Baltic states situated in Eastern Europe, along with its Baltic neighbours Latvia and Lithuania. Its capital is Tallinn, known for its beautiful medieval old town with its striking Baltic architecture and its old city walls and preserved tower, giving the city a fantastic historical element. Estonia has a diverse history, as it has been under the rule of many other countries, which is now reflected in its extremely cosmopolitan nature.
Estonia is filled with castles, ruins and sandy beaches, making it a brilliant destination for a long weekend break as there are lots of activities on offer. The national parks are particularly attractive, with Saaremaa containing one of the best preserved castles in the Baltics. With more than 1,500 Estonian islands, there are always new places to explore, and hikers and ramblers will relish the Estonians’ special relationship with nature.
