About Guatemala
Guatemala can be found in the Central American section of North America, and shares borders with Mexico, Belize, Honduras and El Salvador, as well as a Pacific coastline in the southwest. The culture and architecture in Guatemala fuses that of the Mayans and the Spanish, making this a historically diverse and fascinating place to visit.
Guatemala City is the capital, with many fine restaurants and interesting museums to visit, while Flores is a good starting place if you want to see the glorious Mayan ruins. The Rio Dulce (‘Sweet River’) is the hub of many tourist activities, whether this is jungle hikes to the waterfalls, a canyon tour or helping out on an ecological project.
El Mirador and Tikal are two of the finest Mayan ruin sites, and many archaeologists are still working on sites throughout Guatemala so new things are being discovered all the time. There are also some beautiful beaches for lazy days of sunbathing and relaxation.
