About Guinea
Guinea is a former French colony on the western coast of Africa, and what it lacks in infrastructure, it more than makes up for in its stunning natural beauty and resources. Many tribes can be found in Guinea, each with its own distinct culture and customs, and the people of Guinea are known for being incredibly welcoming to guests.
The nature reserves and national parks are well worth a visit, with many of them being home to animals such as hippos, elephants and chimpanzees, giving you the chance to see these majestic creatures in a natural savannah environment. Hikers and anyone who loves to explore will relish the opportunity to trek through the forests to find the hidden waterfalls and the largely deserted sandy beaches.
Head to the bars in the capital Conakry for some of the best live music experiences in Africa, and the French-Guinean Cultural Centre is the home of many fantastic shows, such as the ballet and plays to introduce you to the culture and lifestyle of the people of Guinea.
