Guide & Tips on hiring a car in Croatia.

Hiring a car doesn't need to be hard. Here's everything you need to know about renting a car in Croatia.

Q: How old do I need to be?

A: You must be 18 or over to hire a car in Croatia.

Q: What licence do I need to hire a car?

A: Visitors from some countries will require an International Drivers Permit. This is not required for drivers from EU countries.

Q: What do I need to secure my booking?

A: A credit card is required to secure a booking and an amount will be taken as a security hold for the duration of the booking.

Q: Do I need to bring a car seat for my kids?

A: Children under five years old must travel in a suitable car seat and cannot ride in the passenger seat. Most rental companies hire out child seats - just ask.

Q: Can I drive my rental car outside Croatia?

A: If you plan to visit non-EU countries outside Croatia during your visit – eg. Bosnia and Herzegovina - you will usually need to pay a border crossing supplement. There is no charge for travel to neighbouring countries within the EU such as Slovenia.

Q: What time should I return my car?

A: Returning a hire car outside scheduled office hours will usually incur a supplement. Check details with your rental company when you collect your car.

Q: Do I need special equipment if driving during the winter months?

A: Winter tyres are required from mid-November to mid-April (rental cars should already have these fitted) and headlights must be switched on at all times in this period.
